Evaluation 6 - What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Photoshop
Using Photoshop I learnt how to use the quick selection tool to cut around the images I wanted on my front cover. I also learnt how to put the layers in different orders in order to over lap the main sell line over the main image. An other thing I learnt was how to make the masthead stand out more by adding a drop shadow and changing the distance, spread and size.


In Design
Using In Design I learnt how to use the rectangle frame tool to place images I wanted onto the contents page and the double page spread. I also learnt to use different text boxes for the articles in order to make the double page spread more organised.


Final Cut
Using Final Cut I learnt how to import different images so that I could use them in the video. I also learnt how to vary the length of each image and text in the sequence so people watching the video have enough time to look and read the image or text. Another thing I learnt is how to change the text by going onto the 'controls' section and typing in the text box and changing the font, size, alignment and style of the text.


Prezi
Using Prezi I learnt how to use paths to link text to the appropriate image in order to make my presentation more organised. I also learnt how to crop an image so I could focus on a certain section of the picture. Another thing I learnt was how to group images together so I could talk about a group of different things at one time.


Slideshare
Using Slidedshare I learnt how to upload a powerpoint I could upload one powerpoint or many powerpoints at one time. I only need to upload one. Slideshare enabled me to upload my powerpoint onto my blog which I would not have been able to do if I had not uploaded it onto Slideshare.


Macs

Using a Mac I learnt how to find the different programmes like Photoshop, InDesign and Final Cut which I . I also learnt how to use those progragmmes. I also learnt how to print screen using Grab. Grab is a programme on a mac that allowed me take a screen shot of my work.

Evaluation 5 - How did you attract/address your audience?

From my primary research, what did my audience want to see?

My audience wanted to see a product that was targeted towards females aged 15 - 30 years old. They wanted to see a product that was the genre of pop. They wanted a clear and organised magazine that uses language aimed at the target audience. Also they wanted to see an image that links with both the target audience and the genre of pop.

From looking at my magazine I think it is obvious that it is aimed at young female adults. It is obvious  because the colour scheme I used is quite feminine. The colours scheme used also tells the audience that this magazine represents the genre of pop. This is because of the bright pinks and blues.The information on my magazine is spaced out evenly which make my magazine look more clear and organised. I used informal words in my magazine like 'gigs' so that the language was similar to the language used by my target audience. I used an image of a female model who is 16 years old. My model therefore links with the target audience. I made my model wear fashionable clothes that were bright. This makes the image link to the genre of pop.

      Improvements


      I made many improvement to my magazine based on the feedback I received.

      Front Cover

      1. I changed the main image from a medium close up to a long shot. I also change the image of one of my other models from a medium close up to a medium long shot.
      2. I cut around the main image and place the image on a white background. I also cut around the images of my other two models. This make my magazine look more clear and bright.
      3. I placed a barcode on the bottom left side.
      4. The colour scheme I previously used was brown and pink. After I finished my rough cut I realised that these two colours didn't work well together and didn't represent the genre of pop. I changes the colours to a light blue and a light pink. These two colour work really well together and they represent the genre of pop because they stand out.
      5. I made the font of my sell lines a bit bigger in order to take up more white space because their was a lot of white spaces on the front cover.
      6. I used a different image because the other image was too stretched. The new image is much better as it doesn't stretch out my model.
      Contents Page

      1. I did another photo shoot because the images I had on one of my models were not ver bright and clear. 
      2. I worked on my spacing and made the contents page more clear and organised. This makes it easier for the reader to find what their looking for.
      3. I changed all the image backgrounds to white because it made the contents page look more clear and organised.
      Double Page Spread
      1. I uploaded my Double Page Spread. I used some of the feedback from the front page and contents page and applied it to my double page spread. 
      2. I reorganised the images to make it look more clearer.
      3. I cut around some of the images in photoshop and placed it on a white background to make it look more professional.

      Final Audience Feedback.

      I asked some questions to three friends in order to get some audience feedback. The questions were:
      1. What draws your attention to the product?
      2. What genre is it and how do you know?
      3. What do you concider are the strengths of the product?
      4. What social group does it represent and how?
      5. Would you purchase the product and why?
      6. How would you improve the product?

      Siobhan said:

      1. The colour scheme draws my attention because the colour work well together.
      2. The genre of this magazine is pop because of the models pose and costume.
      3. A strength of this product is the images. There are different shot distances.
      4. The social group is townies because the colours are similar to the colours townies like.
      5. I would purchase this product because it looks attractive and full of information.
      6. I would improve the product by using another image on your contents page.








      Penny said:

      6. An improvement of this magazine would be to use a male model. Also you could add another sell line to the front cover to make it look morre full.

      3. A strength of this product would be the masthead becaus it looks professional. It looks professional because the colour  in the colour scheme works well together.
      4. The social group is casuals because they like mainstream music and this magazine is for mainstream music.
      5. I would buy this magazine because it looks interesting and like it will inform me with new artists and exiting stories.
      6. An improvement of this magazine would be to have three colours in the colour scheme instead of two.

      Evaluation 4 - Who would be the audience for your media product?

      This is a moodboard detailing who my target audience is for my media product. I made my moodboard in Photoshop using the text tool to create the text and plcing appropriate images in to show a visual description of my target audience. My moodboard describes the age, gender and social group my target audience are. It also shows what they like doing in their spare time, what they like wearing and who they listen to.

      Double Page Spread

      I have completed my first draft of my Double Page Spread. I took screen shoots at different times when I was making the Double Page Spread


















      • I have placed the artists name at the top of the screen so the reader knows who the article is about.
      • I have then done a description of the artist using the text tool. The description will build up to the interview.
      • I have written up the interview and placed a quote in the middle of one of the columns to make the page look more professional.















      • I have placed 7 images onto the page using the frame tool. I placed the four images taken outside on the corners and the three images taken inside in the middle. This make the images more evenly spaced out.
      • I created a Fact File by using the text tool and using 2 different colours.

      Contents Page

      I have completed my first draft of my Contents page. I used InDesign to create my Contents Page. I took screen shoots at different times when I was making the Contents page.






















      • I have copied my masthead from my front cover on photoshop to my contents page on indesign.
      • I have created a subtitle of 'THIS WEEK' using the text tool.
      • I have also placed an image of my model onto the contents page. I did this using the frame tool and then I placed it onto the frame.
      • I also created a band index so the reader knows which bands are in my magazine and where they can find them inside.





















      • I have created the table of contents using the text tool. I changed the colours of the text by creating my own colour swatches on InDesign.
      • I placed more images of two of my models. I used the frame tool and place the image from my documents onto the page.
      • I have also made a section that tells the reader about subscribing to my magazine. I did this by using the text tool.

      Front Cover

      I have completed my first draft of my front page. I took screen shoots at different times when I was making the front page.



      • I placed the image of my model on the screen. I then fit it to size so the image was pixilated. 
      • I created the Masthead which is in the font of Poplar std. 
      • Next to the masthead I created the issue number and month.
      • I have also created boxes to place my text onto to make them stand out more.



      • I have written the sell lines up and have placed them on top of the boxes to make them stand out.
      • I have also written the main sell line up and placed it on a box over the model so the reader knows that the main sell line is about the model.
      • I have also added two other pictures of artists featured in the magazine.

      Photo Shoots - Penny

      I took a number of different pictures of my model, Penny in different poses below is an example of the poses.



      This is the picture I used for the main image on the double page spread. The pose is showing the reader that she is talented because she can play the guitar. The dog shows that she loves animals which links in with the article on the double page spread. She is wearing a blue flowery dress which matches the blue streak she has in her hair. Over all this image look girly because of the pose and the colours used on the clothing.









      This is one of the smaller pictures I used on my double page spread. The pose is showing the reader that she likes having fun aswell as singing. Her head is slightly tilted to the side to make her look more girly which will represent the genre of pop. She is wearing a t-shirt with a red spotty bow on it and jenes. This shows that she is practical.













      This is another one of the smaller images I used on my double page spread. The picture shows her smiling and singing into the microphone. This show the reader that she enjoy doing what she does. The angle of the picture make it look like she is looking at the audience. She is wearing a simple white vest top and a white shirt which shows the simple, elegant side of her which help to represent the genre of pop.

      I took a number of different pictures of my model, Lauren in different poses below is an example of the poses.







      This is the picture I used on the front page. The pose shows the model smiling with her head slightly tilted to the side which represents the genre of pop because it makes the model look girly.















      This is the picture I used on the contents page. I used this picture because of the pose. The model is smiling into the camera and holding a red and white spotty umberella which makes the model look more girly which represents the genre of pop.














      This is the another image I used on the contents page. I used the picture because of the facial expression. The model is wearing headphones and her facial expression suggests she is listening to music which make the picture look more real and this help represent the genre of pop.













      This is another picture I took however I am not going to use it because the model is looking up at the umberella instead of straight into the camera. Also she isn't smiling which make the picture look boring. Also this picture doesn't represent the genre of pop as well as the other pictures I took.

      I took a number of different pictures of my model, Siobhan in different poses below is an example of the poses.





      This is the picture I used for the front cover. I used this picture because it matches the main sell line. The pose also looks girly and cheeky which represents my genre of pop.





      This is one of the pictures I might use on the contents page. I used this picture because the model look happy. The red and white spotty umberella makes the picture look more girly which represents the genre of pop.




      This is the second picture that I used on the contents page. I used this image because it further matches the main sell line. The pose looks like the model is in love and she look girly which represents the genre of pop.





      This is another picture I took however I am not going to use it because it doesn't represent the genre of pop as strongly as the other pictures I took. The model has got head  phones on and is smiling but her facial expression doesn't look like she is listening to music.





      This is also another picture I took and I am also not going to use this picture because there is too much room above the model's head. I want my pictures to be fun and girly but this picture is too serious which doesn't represent the genre of pop.

      Article Draft

      Below is a draft of the article that will be on my double page spread.

      Article
      Penny P might look like an ordinary girl at school, but on stages she is the UK’s youngest and most loved pop star.

      This weekend I was invited to Penny P’s house for a special interview with the girl herself. As soon as I Stepped out of the car at 10 o’clock I was greeted by a massive hug from Penny and was instantly pulled into her house where I found her Mam in the kitchen setting out a buffet. Straight then I realised that Penny was no different from any other girl. After dinner at 12 o’clock we all took a stroll around the park before we settled into the conservatory to begin the interview.

      You’ve been in the music business for 9 months now. What has it been like?
      It’s been crazy. I’ve gone from being someone who nobody knows to someone who can’t even turn a corner without being ambushed from fans.

      Are the fans really that bad?
      No, I love my fans. It’s not so bad in my home town anymore because most people know I live here but even in Darlington I get asked for autographs from people I’ve known all my life. I find that awkward. The fans only get a bit too much when I go to a city and they follow me around. That gets a bit scary.

      How did you get into the music business?
      Well that is a long story.

      Don’t worry we have all day.
      Ok. It was the Easter holidays 2011. My big sister, my little brother and I were making a musical to show our parents. We always do this sort of things. My sister would write the songs and the script. I would do the costume and my brother would get the props. My parents decided to film it to show our grandparents in Devon. We put it on YouTube so they could see and after a week we got a comment from a record company in London who asked us to give them a ring. We rang them up and they told us they thought I would be a big hit if I came to London and recorded one of the songs from the musical as a test to play to a group of people to see if they would buy it. The following Saturday my mam, sister and I were on a train to London. The group loved the song and 9 months later here we are.

      Yes we are. Was your sister ok with you using her song?
      She was fine with it. She always writes songs about everything. When I lost my first tooth she wrote a song for me about the tooth fairy to make me feel better. It was really good. She has a box under her bed full of songs that are amazing. We keep asking her to sing them but she says no because their personal.

      Do you ever feel the urge to steal one of her songs from the box?
      No. I would never do that. She’s very obsessive about the box. She has the songs categorised by genre and then alphabetically. She would never forgive me if I stole one. Anyway the songs she writes for me are happier and more me than the ones in her box.

      Does your sister write all your songs for you?
      Yes. I was never that good with words, whereas my sister was top of her class at English. She writes them and I give her some of my profits. She doesn’t like taking money from me but I tell her that without the songs she writes I wouldn’t be making any money. Also she is trying to save money for a gap year after college so we both win. I get beautiful songs and she gets a beautiful trip abroad.

      Well that sounds fair. How did it feel when your first ever single “I’m just living for today” hit NO.1 in 2 weeks?
      It was unbelievable. I took about a week before it sunk in. I had only been recording for a month and then it was released. I was so nervous because I wasn’t sure if people would like me. I had to keep reminding myself that the test group liked me and that has to count for something. Then 2 weeks down the line it reached NO.1 and I was gobsmacked.

      What do your school friends think of you now?
      Well I always thought if I became a famous singer I would be extremely popular but to be honest I was more popular before I released the song.

      Why do you think that is?
      I think it is because they thought I would change so they dumped me before I dumped them but I don’t think I’ve changed at all. I still live a normal life. I’m not even allowed to spend my money. I get a little bit extra pocket money a month then I use to, but the rest of my money has gone into the bank for university and for when I’m older.

      You still plan on going to university even with a long singing career in front of you?
      Yes I love singing in front of thousands of people nearly every week but my dream has always been to be a vegetarian and I’m not going to give up on my dream just because I’m famous. I love animals just as much as I love singing so maybe in the future I will be able to juggle both being a singer and being a vegetarian but who knows because like my song says I’m just living for today.

      Draft Marking

      My feedback for research and planning suggested that I should:
      • include some images on my recce sheet.
      • do some font research and link it back to my initial research.
      • create a mood board of inspirational images with an annotation.
      • link test shots, props, poses, costumes and make up back to my research.

      After reading my feedback I intend to do everything listed above in order to improve my grade. I intend to do this by going back over my research and planning work and completing the above comments.

      Monday 20th February

      There are 6 weeks until the Easter break which means - 6 weeks of lesson time to complete my foundation portfolio.

      There are 60 marks available for construction and 20 marks for Research and Planning and 20 marks for evaluation - 100 marks in total

      To achieve a grade:

      A I need to get 80 marks

      B I need to get 70 marks

      C I need to get 60 marks


      To be in level 4 (grade A/B) my work must demonstrate excellence throughout.

      By Monday 5th March I should have a rough cut of my products

      By Monday 19th March my products should be completed

      From Monday 19th - Friday 30th March I will be working on my 7 evaluation questions.

      The my completed portfolio should be submitted for formal marking on Monday 16th April. I should use the Easter break to make any minor amendments to my work.

      In order to meet these deadlines and achieve a grade B I will:

      • Attend all my lessons.
      • Work on my coursework in my free lessons and at home.
      • Have my images ready to work with by the beginning of next week. (Monday 27th February 2012)
      • Complete unfinished work at home so I don't fall behind.
      • Keep to my photo shoot schedule. 
      • Have all my equipment ready before the photo shoot.

      Images - Poses

      Below are some photos of one of my models in some poses. Theses are examples of the poses my models will be in when I do the photo shoot.

      The first image is of one of my models. She is holding a guitar and sat on the floor. This is one of the poses my model will be in when I do the photo shoot.

      The second image is of one of my models. She is holding a guitar and standing up. This is another pose my model will be in when I do the photo shoot.
      The third image is of one of my models. She is stood behind the guitar. This is another pose I will use in the photo shoot.


      Images - Props

      Below are some pictures I took of props that I will use in the photoshoot. I have a variety of different items in order to make the images more interesting and eye catching for the reader.

      The first image is of a microphone which one of my models will use in the photo shoot in order to make it look like she is singing. The microphone will make the image more interesting and eye catching for the reader.

      The second image is of a guitar which two of my models will use in the photo shoot in order to make it look like they write their own music which will impress the reader and make them want to read more about the artist.
      The third image is of a pair of sunglasses which one of my models will wear in order to make them look more like a celebrity. This will make the reader want to find out more about the artist.
      The fourth image is of a headband which one of my models will wear to make them look more girly which will represent the genre of pop more.
      The fifth image is of a selection of bracelets that my model will wear in order to make them look more fun and girl which will represent the genre of pop more.
